solution the country really needs? wolf blitzer joins us now from washington. tell me this -- does this jobs act have a fighting chance here do you think, or do you think the senate vote will just end in the same gridlock that we seem to be getting used to? >> the way the legislation is put forward, the entire package that the president has put forward is not going to pass, not going to -- probably won't pass the senate. certainly won't pass the house of representatives where the republicans have a lopsided majority. elements of it are popular if they break out certain parts of it and find a way to pay for those popular parts. some of it could be passed but the package as a whole is dead on arrival, it is not going to get passed. and now that the president has come out and endorsed what some liberal democrats in the senate are proposing, specifically a surtax on millionaires, that's not going to go anywhere among house republicans and many republicans elsewhere so the president has got his problems right now. >> it certainly sounds like it. let me just play something else that the

the libyan capital right now where dan rivers is in tripoli for us. dan, we're about to show our viewers of video of a bloody moammar gadhafi after the capture while he's still alive. what do you know about gadhafi's final moments? >> reporter: well, this video does shed some light on it. it's tough to watch. but i think it's important to have a look at this. you can clearly see that gadhafi is alive when you look at this footage. he is being led away. he looks like he's got a lot of blood on his face. but he is clearly alive. at this point. it seems then that at some point between this video being taken and a subsequent video being taken that he clearly died. now, whether he died of his injuries he sustained when shot, some sources have us believe or whether he was literally beaten to death by this mob of ntc troops sort of pistol whipped to death, we don't know. but clearly here, he seems alive. you get a real visceral sense from this footage of just how roughly he was handled here. naturally perhaps one can imagine that the passion is running so high, but also, i have to stop

. great to have both of you with us. gloria, since you're out in vegas, why don't you give us the sense, what was the response to ron paul's plan today, which, of course, in addition to the trillion-dollar budget cut in year one also included getting rid of several federal agencies. >> reporter: i think republicans are very interested in hearing what ron paul has to say. east been someone who's been on the scene for quite some time. but when you scratch the surface, erin, you see that he wants to eliminate five cabinet departments. he wants to cut spending back to 2006 levels. but when you look at that, that would mean severe cuts in things like medicaid, children's health insurance programs, and, again, once you look at the details, people are going to start raising questions about it. one other thing, he doesn't touch social security or, guess what, medicare. and those, even to this libertarian, seem to be sort of sacred cows, wouldn't you say, in an election year? >> that's an interesting point. john, what do you think about what gloria's saying, though? you come up with a big, bold

of snuck up on us. are you optimistic? >> i am. and i am for several reasons. both of the points you mentioned are clearly the drivers, the macro economic number we've been getting are both incredibly positive, surprisingly positive given weakness in the sectors of the economy. but also the eu, though ausd mentioned, there's a lot of work to be done. it still takes a lot of risk off the table. particularly for the financials. on a day like today, you've seen tremendous leadership from the financials. that's a very good indicator. >> in term of the double dip scenario, which is fair to say our economic strike team had that 17 out of 20 of them, they did not see a double dip. now we get numbers like this. a lot of americans still feel like we're in a recession about it doesn't look like we'll have that double dip so many are dreading. do you agree? >> i do but i must be honest. but i was very, very bearish in mid-april and may. a number that we see today, 2.5 on the gdp, that is definitely not recessionary. in fact we've had quite a few quarters of growth. >> thank you very much. o
